The second open to all seminar with Grandmaster Rene Latosa in Germany organized by the IUEWT was a seminar of the superlative - not only a full success - it was something very special!

At the evening of September 19 2008 a wide spectrum of participants came together. Some of them came from far away, as for example France, Belgium and Italy. Representatives of different associations from Germany were present. From Hamburg to Munich they had come in order to learn from the Grandmaster of Escrima and the pioneer of Filippino martial arts in Europe. And not only that! Regardless of the association affiliation, one trained without any reservations with each other in a relaxed manner, and so everyone contributed to a splendid seminar atmosphere.

Grandmaster Latosa held an excellent seminar to the joy of all participants in which he focused the importance of the Escrima concepts. In particular the concept of balance stood this time to the fore. The Grandmaster clarified, that the main attention should always lie on the concepts, since techniques are only the logical consequence out of concepts. Of course there were also the according exercises for this, which also demanded some sweat from the Escrimadores. All persons present had the pleasure of experiencing Escrima on the highest level.

Grandmaster Latosa paid attention to individual questions of the participants during the complete seminar and thus cleared any problems. For the elucidation he demonstrated always why it is fundamentally a question of logical action in real situations by means of vivid examples. For this purpose exercises were done where the answer could be given by everyone to himself why the blunt carrying out of techniques can not represent the corresponding conduct in real events. In order to underline this reality Grandmaster Rene Latosa demonstrated unarmed Escrima of the finest. He who paid attention to that could discover corresponding parallels to the Wing Tsun during the explanations of the wedge principle and also relocate his own centre line here again. Sifu Marcus Schüssler supported the Grandmaster the whole time as translator and assisted also at demonstrations.

Dai-Sifu Olbers followed the whole event attentively despite the organizational frame work, he saw nevertheless his theses of the parallelism once more confirmed again. Besides he also used the opportunity to shoot some photos. At the end the participants used the opportunity to fare well the Grandmaster and to take a photo with him. Completely according to the motto: "a Grandmaster at hand", what was underlined also by his natural and modest appearance.

Conclusively it can be claimed that this seminar was a special event where everyone felt worthwile - what the participants also brought to expression, just a seminar of the superlative - so the feedbacked written impression of the participants. Next to a comprehensive homework everyone of the present Escrimadores took a remaining impression back home.

That this impressive event should occur once a year needs certainly no further comment. Dai-Sifu Olbers and Sifu Schüssler announced to make an effort for being able to arrange an new date early for the coming year. With some luck this falls then on a Saturday, what would even certainly better fit to more interested parties. The team of the IUEWT thanks again Grandmaster Latosa for his splendid work and all participants for the excellent interaction which facilitated a relaxed and pleasant training atmosphere.

We look forward to a reunion in the coming year and wish all participants a successful training until then of the provided contents and hope, that all interested parties that could not be there this time will have the possibility to come next time.
